Sekuritaci.cz is originally a project by students of Security and Strategic Studies at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University, in Brno, Czech Republic. It is a student e-magazine about security which was founded in 2007 and is officially published by the civic association “Centre for Security and Strategic studies” thereafter. It has its own standardized serial publication number, ISSN 1802-6710. Sekuritaci.cz is a non-profit student project. Operational and maintenance costs are covered by a student grant from the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University. For any questions or comments please contact us at email@example.com.
The main activity of the magazine is publishing on-line articles on various topics related to current security issues and trends, domestic as well as international. The articles are divided into four basic categories. The first category involves commentaries that focus on the very current events, issues or trends in the area of security and international politics. Next, we publish monthly analyses of the political and security-related development in the selected regions of the world. This section includes following subcategories: Euro-Atlantic area, Post-Soviet countries, Middle East, Latin America, East Asia, South Asia and Africa. The third category involves academic studies (research papers) on particular security-related phenomena or issues. For a better orientation, this section is divided into following subcategories: conflicts, extremism and terrorism, security policy, warfare and strategy, economy and energetics, law and organized crime, and others. Finally, the magazine publishes interviews with experts on security from both academic and professional field. Besides these official categories we also publish other kinds of texts that are related to security topics, be it essays, book and movie reviews, glosses etc. Most of the articles are written either in Czech or Slovak language but from time to time we publish English-written texts as well (see section “In English”).
In addition to publishing activities, the editorial board in cooperation with the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies takes part in organizing conferences and regular experts‘ lectures (series “Security Wednesdays/Tuesdays”) which invite security experts from various fields (e.g. armed forces, police forces, media, academia, NGOs etc.) and take place every semester at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University.
The main goal of this project is to make the security agenda more accessible to the public. Our activities are devoted to initiate a professional debate about current security issues and broaden the common knowledge among public on these important topics which suffer very often from misinterpretation and manipulation, especially (but not only) in the mass media. Moreover, we want to offer the fellow students of Security Studies and related fields (International Relations, Political Science) as well as young experts on security an opportunity to express their opinions and views. Our magazine accepts written contributions from all the students (bachelor, master, Ph.D. candidates) although most of the articles are written directly by the editorial board. Last but not least, our goal is to promote the programme of Security and Strategic Studies taught at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic.
Current editorial board consists of master and bachelor students from the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University. For any questions or comments, please write to firstname.lastname@example.org.
